Maslinica is the only village and port on the western coast of the island Solta. Southern side of the bay Maslinica has beautiful landscape with pine trees and hidden rocky beaches, and in front of the bay is an archipelago of seven small islands. On the largest of them, Stipanska, an early Christian basilica was built in 5the and 6th century, and in the Middle Ages Benedictine monastery was built whose remains can still be seen nowadays.
Maslinica began to populate in the 1703rd when an aristocratic family Marchi asked an approval from a Venetian governor for the establishment of a new settlement and for the construction of a castle with towers for defense of frequent pirate attacks. Martinis-Marchi castle is now converted into a luxury accommodation and restaurant "Conte Alberti". Around this baroque castle the fishing village with a picturesque stone houses was built. The inhabitants were mainly engaged in fishing and agriculture, while nowadays they are turning more and more towards hospitality.
As a tourist destination, Maslinica draws lovers of nature, beaches and clear waters. Recently it is often visited by cyclists, rowers, boaters, as well as the lovers of diving, sport fishing and hunting.
Nowadays Maslinica is an attractive tourist mecca, and it has received a national award as the best tourist place up to 1,000 inhabitants on the Adriatic. Here you will experience the most beautiful sunsets on the island. Navigators are attracted by one of the most beautiful Adriatic anchorages - Šesula bay, which is located next to the Maslinica bay. At the edge of the bay during high and low season there two restaurants with a great variety of fish, located twenty minutes walking distance from the center of Maslinica. In the center there are also four restaurants that offer grilled fish and meat or traditional “peka“ ( a baked dish made in a pot or a tray that is put into the embers of a fireplace), but also few traditional Soltan dishes .
The swimming season lasts from beginning of May to the Halloween (All Saints Day in Croatia- 31.10 . ). You will preferably swim and sunbathe at pebble beach Punta in Tepli Bok . You can even choose between the many hidden beaches or rocky plateau on the islands Saskinja or Polebrnjak . After the season, the residents of Maslinica retreat in surrounding olive groves for the olive harvest . Experience with them olive harvest by hands in the traditional way!
For kayakers interesting is a ride around seven islands in front of Maslinica or to nearby beautiful bays, and for bikers or joggers there are hills around the olive groves, with both mild and steep slopes, or riding the paved roads to the old villages in the interior of the island.
